In Human Beings Are Insensitive to “Living”, Hajime Machiya presents a work driven by a determined effort to reconsider human existence not merely as an abstract philosophical concept, but through the act of living itself. One of the book’s most distinctive qualities lies in the way it traverses diverse fields — philosophy, science, economics, and society — without reducing them to a simple accumulation of knowledge. Instead, these perspectives gradually converge upon the fundamental question: What does it mean to be human? The structure of the work carries a unique intellectual momentum, as though fragments of thought are being assembled into a larger inquiry into existence itself.

Equally compelling is the fact that, while the book offers a sharp critique of contemporary human behavior, it never descends into cynicism.
