Artist’s Statement
Many flowers bloom in my garden, and I cherish them as if they were dear companions.
Whether flowers or birds, I believe there is nothing more important than observing the real thing with my own eyes.
Nature offers a beauty and vitality that cannot be fully captured through photographs or imagination alone.
Message from the Artist
I would be happy if you simply view this work in your own way and find your own meaning in it.
Japan-Europe Palace Art Association Commentary
The Nihonga paintings of Chizuko Itabashi are rooted in a deep affinity with nature and a keen power of observation.
Whether depicting flowers, birds, or other natural subjects, her work consistently reflects a quiet sense of respect for life.
In this piece, the peonies possess both elegance and serenity, filling the composition with a dignified presence.
The delicate rendering of the leaves and the gentle appearance of the butterfly suggest a lifelong engagement with the natural world.
Rather than pursuing decoration alone, Itabashi seeks to capture the living essence of what she observes firsthand.
Across her diverse body of work, a sincere and enduring gaze toward nature remains constant, forming the foundation of her distinctive artistic world.
