 SARA

Artist’s Statement

I feel that my works fundamentally carry the role of “bringing things into harmony,” “adjusting,” and “connecting.”
In Sara, sacred water prayers are written on the base using Ryutai characters.
Ancient script, kotodama (the spiritual power of words), and visions received through intuition are expressed directly within the work itself.
Rather than consciously deciding, “I will write this word,” or “I will place this texture here,” I move my hands naturally toward where they feel drawn to go.
Very little of my ego enters the process.
Instead, there is a quiet sense of knowing:
“Ah, this is the direction.”
“This is the word.”

The key themes of this work were “connection through water” and “purification.”
It is said that the Water Prayer helps purify places connected to water, makes it easier to connect with dragon spirits, and raises the overall flow of energy and fortune.
Both Malta and Japan are countries surrounded by the sea.
I feel there may also be a meaning of “connection” within that shared geography.
And the human body itself is made of nearly 60% water.

From Sara (the dragon), I received the following message:
“Especially gut care.
Cleanse your inner self.
Purify.”

Please allow yourself to receive the energy of Sara.
I believe this energy expands and resonates outward in a chain of connection.
May all people be fulfilled.

Message from the Artist

Please try gently placing your hands toward the artwork.
(Even through video is perfectly fine.)

Each person may experience it differently, but I hope you will receive the energy of Sara.

Japan-Europe Palace Art Association Commentary

Erika’s work is directed not toward depicting form itself, but toward expressing the invisible currents of feeling, consciousness, and connection.
Throughout her artistic practice runs a consistent pursuit of love, harmony, and unity, culminating in a distinctive body of energy-based art that is uniquely her own.

In Sara, the dragon appears not merely as a mythical being, but as a symbolic presence that bridges humanity and the wider world.
The luminous gold emerging from a profound interplay of deep blue and black evokes the imagery of water—its power to purify, renew, and sustain—while lending the composition a sense of solemn grandeur.

Guided by intuition rather than predetermined structure, Erika allows forms to emerge organically beyond the boundaries of theory or convention.
Her work reflects an exploration of the inner self alongside a desire for meaningful connection with others.
Through the image of the dragon, Sara embodies the artist’s enduring vision of interconnectedness, offering a visual expression of the spiritual themes that lie at the heart of her creative world.
